Port Blair

The first place where you land before you explore Paradise Island.

Port Blair

Port Blair is the capital and the most prominent Island of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Apart from super-fast internet and shopping malls, most of the services and facilities available in other parts of India can be found in Port Blair.

With several attractions for tourists such as museums, British and French colonial monuments, water sports, and boat rides Port Blair is the first place you will land before you proceed to the rest of your journey.

Also known as mini India, you will find people from West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, etc, in the islands. They have been living together in peace and harmony for years now. And over the years Andaman & Nicobar Islands Administration has developed the Islands to attract more tourists.

One of the most prominent National Memorials situated at the heart of the city is a monument you must visit. Cellular Jail, famously known as “Kala Pani” is a colonial prison. It was constructed between 1896 and 1906, which holds many pieces of evidence of the freedom fighters.

Pay a visit to get an insight into the struggles that the freedom fighters had gone through.  As you enter the monument, you will find a three-winged jail, with each of the wings consisting of 693 solitary cells. The entrance opens into an exhibition gallery that has photos of our freedom fighters. The first floor of the building has an Art Gallery, Netaji Gallery, and also Library on Freedom Movement.

“Freedom is never dear at any price. It is the breath of life. What would a man not pay for living?”

 – Mahatma Gandhi.

Cellular Jail Light and Sound Show

The best way to endure history is when someone narrates it. The light and sound show transforms the cellular jail into a beautiful stage of a vivid performance but also tells us the heart-wrenching history of the freedom movement.

Joggers Park

It is not always about the famous spots or activities that you ‘must-see or must-do’ but it is also about the small places of calm and peace that take you closer to what you needed on your holiday. This place is recommended for those who want to take some moments by themselves.
It is missed by most who visit the Islands.

Used by the locals for morning and evening walks, this park has a breadth taking view. All you can see is the city and the lit runway of the airport. We suggest just an hour here, after your busy day of sightseeing and activities. Preferably an evening before the departure from the Island, you can sit here and soak in the memories of the trip.

Wandoor Beach

Located at a remote place, Wandoor beach can be reached through deserted roads and forests. You are seldom greeted by the sudden view of the blue sea, noticeable from between the forest cover.
It is the largest shoreline in Port Blair, stretching up to 15 KMs. It has fallen tropical trees after the 2004 tsunami in the white sand and has clear blue waters where you can dive.
There are numerous sightings of crocodiles near the woods of the Wandoor beach. However, they have moved far away and the government has built a nest around the beach. So you can take a dip without any fear.
